The Firm’s principal attorney, John Leo Walter, has a diverse legal background.

Mr. Walter did commercial litigation in the U.S. District Court earlier in his career but has since focused entirely on civil and criminal litigation in Maryland’s State Court system. For over 25 years, Mr. Walter has focused on litigation – he is what is known as a trial lawyer.

On the civil side of the law, Mr. Walter does everything from breach of contract, automobile accident torts, wrongful death, medical malpractice, premises liability, etc.; on the criminal side of the law, Mr. Walter provides an aggressive legal defense to people charged with DWIs & DUIs, driving suspended, first degree and second-degree assaults, malicious destruction of property, simple possession of CDS and possession with the intent to distribute CDS (to name a few).

Meet John Walter

In 1990, John Leo Walter, Esquire, received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Baltimore. Thereafter, in 1992, Mr. Walter went on to obtain his Master’s in Government & Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, graduating with Honors. In 1995, Mr. Walter earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Walter not only graduated at the top of his class, he was also awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Scholarly Writing and served with distinction as a Senior Associate Editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review. Mr. Walter was honored to have Rutgers Law School use his Law Review Casenote as supplemental reading for its first-year property law students.

Meet John Walter

Prior to opening Eastern Shore Legal, Mr. Walter was an associate attorney at the law offices of Leitess, Leitess, & Friedberg, P.C. (Leitess). At Leitess, Mr. Walter’s caseload consisted primarily of complex commercial litigation. During his time at the firm, Mr. Walter was responsible for extensive research and writing. He became familiar with Federal and State commercial law and obtained extensive experience reviewing and analyzing commercial lending contracts, security agreements, and leases.

In 1999, Mr. Walter researched and drafted legal memoranda and argued the legal position for IVTx, Inc ., in the matter of In re Doctors Health, Inc. 98-6-6211-JFS, in the United States Bankruptcy Court. The subsequently published opinion mirrored the position asserted by IVTx, Inc., to the extent that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, for the first time in Maryland, recognized that State health care laws and public policies affected the “jurisdiction” of the Bankruptcy Courts when considering the implementation of a stay.

In 2000, Mr. Walter worked as a trial lawyer at the law offices of Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P. A. Mr. Walter was responsible for the organization, management, and ultimate litigation and/or arbitration of hundreds of case files.

Over the past decade, Mr. Walter has acquired thousands of hours of litigation experience. Mr. Walter’s legal career necessarily required him to draft complex Complaints, Motions, and other legal memoranda and pleadings. Mr. Walter has argued cases in the Maryland Circuit Courts, District Courts, Maryland Court of Appeals, United States District Courts, and the United States Bankruptcy Courts.

Currently, Mr. Walter is a member of the Maryland Bar Association, the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, and the Queen Anne’s County Bar Association. Mr. Walter is licensed to practice in Maryland’s State & Federal Courts.
